The DuPont Company is well into its third century, having begun as a black gunpowder producer on the banks of the Brandywine River in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1802. DuPont moved into chemistry and dominated the field of polymers in the 20th century, bringing to the world such products as Nylon, Teflon, Lycra, and Kevlar.

Virtual Reality in Education

What happens when you introduce virtual reality (VR) into schools? Mike McArdle, co-founder of The Virtual Reality Learning Experience (, will describe VRLE's experiences over the last year and a half as they have taken VR into local schools to help students understand the scale of outer space. As part of the process, VRLE has developed a better understanding of how kids, teachers, and administrators react to VR and what other kinds of content might be useful.

Building Commercial Success: Then and Now

Bill New is the cofounder of Nellcor, which first developed and marketed pulse oximetry systems -- that thing a nurse puts on your finger to determine your blood oxygen levels. He holds a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Stanford and earned his MD and was the chief resident in anesthesiology at Duke Medicine. His talk will focus on the challenges he faced when starting Nellcor and a subsequent business venture, Natus, that developed a device that determines if a baby barely 24 hours old can hear.
