Our future will be in significant part determined by public policy decisions by companies and government about science and technology, yet few know how this system works-it is truly a "black box" for most. Meanwhile, we increasingly understand that science- and technology-based innovation is deeply connected to society's economic growth and its corresponding ability to generate societal wellbeing and to solve big societal challenges like climate change or the need for quality jobs. So the public importance of science is growing.

iMED (innovative MEDicine), the student group of MEDx (Medicine+Engineering at Duke) which brings together students and faculty from all the Duke graduate schools, will hold a virtual kickoff event on Zoom at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 4. All Duke graduate students are invited.

iMED's mission is to provide a safe, collaborative environment where people with unique expertise from their respective graduate schools can share, mentor, and learn from one another about entrepreneurship and engineering to tackle domestic and global health care problems.

Bates White will be holding virtual chat sessions with sophomore students from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on March 12th to discuss their company, the economic and financial consulting industry, and their summer consultant internship opportunity. Chats will be 20 minutes in length and held in a small group format with 3-4 students and a Bates White representative. This session is open to all sophomore students.

2nd Order Solutions will be holding three virtual chat sessions with sophomore students from 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m.-1:00 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on March 5th to discuss their organization, the finance and data science industries, and their internships and professional opportunities in data science and business analysis. The chat sessions will be 30 minutes in length and held in an open group format.

Capital One will be holding two virtual chat sessions with sophomore students from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00-6:00 p.m. on March 11th to discuss their company, the finance, consulting and technology industries, and internship opportunities. The chat sessions will be 60 minutes in length and held in an open group format. During this event, Duke alumni will be offering insights into their experiences at Capital One.
