The Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative, in partnership with the professionals at Home Energy North Carolina, offer a free home energy efficiency workshop for the Duke community. This engaging and hands-on workshop will teach attendees how their homes utilizes energy and what actions they can take to save on their energy bill.

Faculty/Instructor TechFair

This open-house style event will feature faculty-oriented table-top demos and practical advice about how to get and use Duke's most important technology services for teaching and learning. It's open to all faculty, instructors, and researchers. Covered topics include: research computing, collaboration tools like WebEx, Box and O365, CIT services like Sakai and PebblePad, virtual reality demos, academic media services, 3D printing, and hands-on tech help with Sakai, mobile devices and laptops.

Negotiating the Academic Job Offer (for Postdocs and Graduate Students in the Sciences and Engineering)

In this session, a panel of Duke faculty members will discuss the negotiation process. Questions include:
- What does a typical start-up package look like? How much can you negotiate it, and how can you provide justification for asking for more?
- How much grant money are you expected to bring if you get hired?
- What are some common pitfalls in the negotiation process?
- Can you negotiate for a position for your partner or spouse? If so, when do you bring it up?

Creating digital flyers can be fun and easy. This event will take you through the process on how to use existing templates to create a compelling flyer in familiar applications such as PowerPoint. Once you've created your flyer, we will review how you can submit it for inclusion on many of the 100s of digital signs located across all of Duke's campuses using the DukeFlyer 2.0 system. Video is an excellent platform for marketing your service, but the expense, time, and potential learning curve may make the investment of time seem to outweigh the benefit. Here, we'll discuss tools and resources how to get the best quality video with minimal equipment, cost, and experience. While this is not a class that will go in depth into video editing processes, it is intended to be used as a helpful guide for getting started, and we will point the audience toward the most practical tools to expand their knowledge and skillset.

This panel will describe what 360 video is and how it's recorded, including some of the cameras you can use to capture an immersive experience to share a vacation memory or a family event. You will also learn about two projects funded by the Duke Digital Initiative (DDI) that are exploring the use of 360 video in teaching and learning at Duke. 360 video captures scenery and action from all sides and, in some cases, from above and below, too!
