Announcing the Winners of the Triangle Impact Challenge 2021: FlyRDU

Airline travel has taken a huge hit from the coronavirus shutdown, yet it has always been a vital part of the global and regional economy.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is already helping passengers fly with confidence by increasing its cleaning and disinfecting practices, requiring that masks be worn in the airport, encouraging physical distancing and using touchless technology. Now RDU wants to identify additional ways to make air travel safe and welcoming by tapping into the talents of local universities and research institutes.

Annual Invented at Duke Celebration

Co-hosted by Duke OLV & Duke I&E, Invented at Duke celebrates and promotes the diverse accomplishments of Duke innovators and entrepreneurs. The event showcases select technologies, inventions, and novel ideas-illustrating the breadth of Duke discoveries-while also highlighting Duke's innovation and entrepreneurship resources and facilitating discussions among Duke inventors and the broader Duke community.

StartupConnect Panel: Prepare for Virtual Networking

Interested in working or interning for a startup? In this industry panel, you'll gain information and tools to network virtually with startup representatives. Industry panelists will share what roles they're hiring for, what they look for when hiring, and what it's really like working for a startup. While this panel was designed to prepare students for the February 18 StartupConnect Networking Fair, registration for that event is not required to attend this one. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are welcome.

The Future of American Innovation & the Role of the University

Speaking to the Duke, UNC, and Triangle community, Andrei Iancu, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property & Director of United States Patent and Trademark Office will discuss the new National Council for Expanding American Innovation (NCEAI) initiative launched in September 2020. The goal of this inititative is to build a more supportive and inclusive innovation ecosystem, highlighting the need for additional support for URM & women entrepreneurs.

You're welcome in the Student Founder Program regardless of your level of experience with innovation and entrepreneurship. If you have an idea and want to make it real-whether that looks like founding a business, starting a nonprofit, launching a social service, or engineering an invention-you belong in the program. You can participate as an individual, or as part of a team.

Inventing Prosperity: Science, Technology, and the Future of American Innovation

While the U.S. is at the forefront of science and technology, there are concerns that American innovations are declining. As the American innovation ecosystem has become increasingly specialized, American innovations are also becoming more narrow in nature and important sectors of the economy are being relatively neglected.
